Forever Young “A NEW YOU” MAKEOVER Winner!!!
Finding A Personal Path
By Nancy Jo Eckerson
Vacation is over. Helen has come home to face a few cold, hard facts. She abandoned her program a bit, during her three week visit in Nevada, resulting in a weight gain. “I am amazed to see what a difference this healthy eating makes,” said Helen. “Just those few weeks of returning to some of the more fatty and sugary foods brought back my hot flashes, as well as the weight gain and a great deal of guilt when I knew I was making poor choices.” But, the experience provided Helen with a great education. She has a greater consciousness about the positive benefits of good nutrition.
“Helen is back on task, and I am pleased with her newly gained insights. Remember, variety in diet is a key factor in ensuring good health,” Dr. Kurss reminds us. “We don’t always know what our body needs, so eat healthy, but don’t constantly eat the same things. You could be depriving yourself of a very necessary nutrient. Be creative, do something that works for you. Change the course of your routine,” said Dr. Kurss.
So, upon her return, Helen has decided to pursue her long-lost love of the piano. “It’s been years, but I am going to try. If I can’t get it on my own, I think I will find a teacher and take lessons,” said Helen.
In that same vain, Dr. Kurss has recommended that Helen have a session of Accelerated Healing with Carol Lee MacKay, whose practice is also located in the Women’s Wellness Center of WNY. It is time to change the course of Helen’s healing by incorporating a new technique. With MacKay’s expertise, Helen will be gaining the knowledge of how to tap into her inner wisdom more effectively. “Energy medicine, MacKay’s specialty, has been shown to be very effective in bringing a person’s mind, body and spirit back in balance,” said Dr. Kurss. “Helen will be gaining insight into what motivates her, and how to find her own next steps.” Be sure to watch for next month’s in depth discussion of this fascinating healing technique and how it is transforming the nature of health care.
In the meantime, Forever Young has taken a peak at Helen’s future, with a visit to The Jacqueline Shoppe, 5524 Main, Williamsville. Helen will be treated to an elegant fashion makeover in June with the help of Jacqueline Blemel, proprietress.

“The Jacqueline Shoppe was established, by the original Jackie, in the mid-70s,” said Blemel. “I purchased the business, in 1999, when Jackie was going out of business.” Blemel, a valued customer at the store, had been working in a public accounting office for 30 years. “I decided I needed to live with a shoe on the other foot! I have now found that payroll and sales taxes, paying the bills and being able to do all of that, is a real challenge. You must have the drive to succeed, but most of all, you must have a very understanding family, in order to make it all work,” said Blemel.
“The general rule to follow to make the best of our bodies, no matter what the shape, is to be tasteful,” Blemel advises. “If in doubt, ask a friend who you think dresses well. Accentuate your best parts and keep the rest in the background.”
“Denim is a must, this spring and summer,” said Blemel. “Also, we are now showing our love of vintage styles mixed with modern fashions. Another huge hit are skirts flirty, flattering and feminine, glammedup with lace and intricate beaded detail or shell trim.” Gaucho pants and widecuffed, cropped pants are also very popular. The colors for spring are neutrals, pales, white, blue, browns and oranges. Belts and sashes are an integral part of everyday dressing bejeweled or embroidered.
Among other savvy designers, The Jacqueline Shoppe features the styles of Linda Lundstrom of Toronto, Canada. Lundstrom offers great line cuts from size 2 to size 24. “We feature Linda Lundstrom fashions twice a year when we present her complete line at our trunk show held at The Jacqueline Shoppe,” said Blemel.
The Jacqueline Shoppe focuses on special occasion dressing. The sales clerks are eager to cater to mothers-of-the-bride/groom ensembles and prom attendants. They have a vast collection of dressy separates which can easily be mixed and matched to achieve most any desired affect. “We love to dress our ladies up for all special occasions, including the latest craze ballroom dancing,” said Blemel.
Be sure to stop in and see the beautiful fashions on display at The Jacqueline Shoppe. You are sure to be pleased with the stunning styles and the professional treatment given to each client.

Helen's Progress
|
Women’s Wellness Center’s chiropractor Scott Beres, gives a glowing report. “Helen has been steadily progressing. Her MRI reveals some advanced arthritis and disc disease. For keeping her spine from degenerating further I’ve offered exercise and regular chiropractic adjustments. She noticed some symptoms returning after three weeks off, but with treatment she’s better than ever.”
Helen’s fitness trainer, Chuck Pelitera, of Pelitera’s Fitness Consultants at the center, updated us on her progress. “Helen has increased the weight on some of her exercises. Her lower body strength has increased significantly, which is important for decreasing the chance for osteoporosis in the hips and lower back. Her upper body strength also improved slightly. Her biggest challenge is still weight loss.”
“I am really happy with the results I am experiencing with these chiropractic treatments,” said Helen. “My shoulder pain used to wake me up two to three times a night. I now sleep till at least 6 a.m. I am proud that I have added more weight to the weight-training and I feel good! I’ve had my second laser treatment on my lips, and can’t wait to start seeing the results. Most of all, I am looking forward to my day at Season’s Day Spa. Can you believe I’ve never had a manicure, pedicure or a massage? This is going to be fun.” |
