Plan a Bingo Party at Home
By Bill Harford
Part of the reason bingo is such a popular pastime is because it often feels like one giant party a group of friends come together to have a good time, and maybe even win some money. But the fun doesn’t need to end when you leave the bingo hall. You can have a bingo party at home, too.
First, find a night when your usual bingo hall is closed perhaps a weeknight, or holiday. Next, put together a small group of players. One of you will act as the main organizer, but everyone can pitch in and take on some responsibilities.
Next, decide on a theme for the occasion. If you’ve planned the party for a holiday, there’s your answer perhaps a Christmas or Halloween affair. Or, look to the seasons. Other options include birthdays, anniversaries or even wedding showers.
It goes without saying that the guest list is key. The best idea is to agree on a list from the very beginning, so everyone can have a chance to decide on the theme, date and location. Preparation should not take more than a week, so seven days notice should be more than enough time. A cost-effective option is a pot-luck party ask your guests who would like to cook, bring drinks, etc. Or, you can always order food. If this is your plan, just make sure everything will arrive on time.
Prizes and gifts are another important part of the party. Perhaps your guests can bring small prizes to act as winnings. These could also include food, drinks, old books, gift certificates anything at all.
It will be necessary to prepare bingo cards, although you can always purchase ready-made cards from a store. It will be cheaper, however, to make your own. These can tie in with the theme, and make a fun do-it-yourself project.
For numbers, you can very easily write digits on small slips of paper, and have one member of the group act as a caller taking turns is probably a good idea.
Now, you should be more than ready for some bingo fun. Nothing beats a trip to the bingo hall, but the joy of bingo does not have to end once the hall is closed.
