This month, Forever Young is honored to profile one of the most artistically relevant Western New Yorkers of the last century — the great Emanuel “Manny” Fried.
An actor, director, playwright, college professor, and a man known for his fierce social commentary, Fried has certainly lived an extraordinary life. Jana Eisenberg, a longtime writer for Buffalo Spree, sat down with Manny recently, and the resulting story is a wonderful slice of memory, history and inspiration. Fried is 94 years old, and remains an active, important voice.
The members of the group Young@Heart also have strong voices — literally. The subject of the recent acclaimed documentary Young@Heart, the rock-singing seniors are truly relishing the latter part of their lives. The film was scheduled to open in May in Buffalo, and it’s definitely worth your time. To read more about the film, see writer John Hakes’s piece in this month’s issue.
