Celebrating its silver anniversary this year is the Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Since 1981, the festival has been a North-of-the-border holiday treat, and looks to have a wide-ranging selection of entertainment and events through January 7.
Once Mickey and Minnie Mouse flip the switch in Queen Victoria Park on November 3, the fun begins. And as attendees have come to expect, along with the glorious illuminations, musical performances play a large role in the festivities.
Speaking of Mickey and Minnie, their Disney friends Belle and the Beast will be on-hand in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, live at the Niagara Centre for the Arts from November 23 to January 7. More on-stage excitement for kids and families will follow at the Misty Kids Show and The Nutcracker Ballet.
Perhaps the biggest musical name at this year’s festival is Irish favorite Daniel O’Donnell, a popular performer in North America who has earned more than 20 top-40 albums in England. The Niagara Gospel Concert Series presents the Martins on November 7. The Dove and Grammy Award-winning family are Christian music heavyweights.
The series will continues with the Beene Family on December 7, a group quickly becoming recognized as one of the most exhilarating families in Gospel music. Canada’s Three Tenors Tribute Show will be held on November 11. Featuring tribute performances of the most unforgettable solos of Caruso, Lanza and Bocelli.
The Festival will also feature country legend Charley Pride, singer Charlie Prose, the Mantini Sisters, and a two-hour live extravaganza, the Golden Age Variety Show, on December 5-7. The show features more than 80 senior performers.
The Niagara Falls Comedy Fest will be held on November 23 and 24, featuring popular Canadian comic Brent Butt.
The Candy Cane Lane 5k Race and Fun Run on November 25 will offer cash prizes for the top overall male and female runners.
And of course, fireworks will light up the sky over the Falls on November 3, 9, 16, 23 and 30; December 7, 14, 21 and 26-31; and January 1-6.
Reservations are being accepted for group tickets and overnight packages. Call Pathway Tours at 1-800-265-7900 for more information.
