Story of Rivals
One of the more acclaimed books about Abraham Lincoln in recent memory was Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. For those who enjoyed the book, or are just interested in American history, Joseph A. Grande, former chair of the department of history at D’Youville College, will review the book at Chef’s, 291 Seneca Street in Buffalo, on October 1. The Swirl of Tango
For all you Dancing With the Stars-lovers out there: Ready to see some real dancing? One of Argentina’s greatest cultural exports, Tango Buenos Aires, will perform at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on October 4. Featuring a dance troupe and live tango orchestra, the performers have visited audiences around the world for the past 15 years. Dunkirk’s Best-Seller
Dunkirk native Wendy Corsi Staub is a best-selling author whose work ranges from romantic suspense stories to a series based around the psychic community in Lily Dale. A national and local favorite, Staub returns for a book signing at Borders in Orchard Park on October 18. Mums the Word
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens hosts its annual fall gala, “Celebrate Fall … Mums the Word,” on October 19 from 6-10 p.m. An auction, sit-down dinner, awards and sneak peak of the 102nd Mum Show is on tap. Tickets are $85 for members and $100 for non-members.
