Erie County Offers Caregivers Program

A six-week educational program designed to provide caregivers the tools needed for taking care of themselves is being offered from October through December by the Erie County Department of Senior Services. Pre-Registration is required — call 858-2177 or e-mail caregiver@erie.gov for more information or to register. There is a $25 cost for the course, which includes a copy of The Caregiver Helpbook.

The schedule is:
• Elderwood at Rosewood, 76 Buffalo Street, Hamburg — 6-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, October 9-30, November 13 and 20.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton Street, West Seneca — 5-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, October 9-November 13.

• Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road, Kenmore — 6:30-9 p.m., Tuesdays, October 16-November 20.

• VA of WNY, Room 412B, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo — noon-2:30 p.m., Mondays, October 29, November 5, 19 and 26, December 3 and 10.

• Elderwood at Glenwood, 5271 Main Street, Williamsville — 6-8:30 p.m., Mondays, November 5-December 10.

• American Red Cross, Room 4, Blood Services Building, 786 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo — 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Fridays, November 2, 9, 16 and 30, and December 7 and 14.

Additional classes are being scheduled. For more information or to register, contact the Erie County Department of Senior Services at 858-2177, or by e-mail at caregiver@erie.gov. The class listing is also available online at www.erie.gov/depts/seniorservices.

Also being held is a free day of workshops and caregiver information from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 13 at the Millenium Airport Hotel in Cheektowaga, Reservations are required; call 858-2177 or write to caregiver@erie.gov. Lunch and materials are provided.

On October 10, Senior Services offers a free informational and resource fair from 9 a.m. to noon at the Town of Tonawanda Senior Center, 291 Ensminger Road. This event brings together varied partners able to help you age in place. Call Karen Johnson at 204-1508 to pre-register.
