From Halloween to Dinner Theater in Clarence

Clarence is well known for its scenic beauty, residential highlights and interesting antique shopping. There are fun and exciting family-themed events held every month in the town, and this is especially true in October, when Halloween is the name of the game. But there’s much more, from the final weeks of Clarence Farmer’s Market to dinner theater at the historic Asa Ransom House. Take a look at what’s on tap in Clarence in October.

• Fall Family Expo — Starts September 29-30, continues October 6-8, Great Pumpkin Farm, 11199 Main Street.

This first-ever event will feature local businesses, family shows and entertainment. For more information on the Expo, call 759-6300.

• Asa Ransom Wednesday and Thursday Dinner Theater Nights, October 4, 25.

These evenings include a four-course gourmet dinner and theater ticket. Advanced purchase necessary — tickets are $40 per person. The October shows are Arsenic & Old Lace on October 4 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Guys & Dolls on October 25 at 7:30 p.m.

• Asa Ransom Friday and Saturday Dinner Theater Nights, October 5, 6, 19, 20, 26, 27.

Tickets are $58 per person. The October shows are Arsenic & Old Lace on October 5-6 at 8 p.m. and Guys & Dolls on October 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m.

• Asa Ransom Sunday Dinner Theater Nights, October 5, 6, 19, 20, 26, 27.

Enjoy a 2:30 p.m. performance and a four-course dinner after the show. The package includes dinner, theater ticket, taxes and gratuities. Advanced purchase necessary — $40 per person. The October shows are: Arsenic & Old Lace on October 7 at 2:30 p.m. and Guys & Dolls on October 21 and 28.

• Clarence Farmer’s Market, October 6, 13, 20, and 27, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 10490 Main Street.

October 27 is the final weekend for the market until June.

• World Pumpkin Confederation Weigh-Off, October 6, 10 a.m., the Great Pumpkin Farm.

This is the 25th anniversary of the weigh-off, featuring contests and prizes. Last year’s first-place pumpkin came in at 1,208.5 pounds.

• Creative Retreats at The Asa Ransom House and the Craftsmen Café, October 12-13, 26-27.

On October 12 and 13, learn the basics of knitting as you make fun pieces for gift giving or to keep. Artisan Arlene Behrens will guide you through the projects. Then, on October 26 and 27, painter Manning McClandlish will teach basic watercolor painting.

• Boo Bash 2007 — October 28, noon-4 p.m., WNY Events Centre, 11163 Main Street.

This family-friendly Halloween event will feature a live broadcast from Star 102.5, face-painting, trick-or-treating, magicians, interactive games, pumpkin-painting and music, with proceeds to benefit Carly’s Club. For a $2 admission, kids receive a trick-or-treat bag filled with goodies.
