Celebrating 100 Years!
Mary Mantino
Mary Mantino, a resident at The McGuire Group’s Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Lancaster, recently celebrated her 100th birthday during a party with 45 family members and friends.
She was born on March 10, 1907 in Lancaster, N.Y. to Thomas and Anna Marie Natoli and grew up in Batavia, N.Y.
She met her husband, the late Thomas Mantino, at the home of a mutual friend. Together they have five children, all of whom reside in the Western New York area: Michael, Thomas, Ann Vedella, Kathleen Iavenditti and Angeline Chojnacki. Mary also has 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mary worked in the cafeteria at Canisius College and was very active in a number of women’s clubs and organizations. In her spare time, she enjoyed needle crafts, sewing blankets and shopping.
Mary was the 17th resident admitted to The McGuire Group’s Harris Hill Nursing Facility just after it opened in 1992. She currently serves as the Resident Council president and is an avid Bingo player and bowler. She is also a member of the facility’s resident baseball team, which was recently featured live on Channel 2 News
Lucy Eusanio
Lucy Eusanio, a resident of Tennyson Court Senior Care Community since 2002, celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends from around the country on March 10 at Tennyson Court (Lucy turned 100 March 12). The daughter of Charles and Mathilda Marrano, both from Italy, Lucy was born in Lackawanna, NY and was the eldest of eight children. Married at age 17, she moved to Buffalo where she would spend the next 70 years before moving into Tennyson Court just before her 95th birthday. Lucy’s has six children; 22 grand children; 40 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren, and two more on the way. One of her sons, Eugene Eusanio, attributes her longevity to never having a drink of alcohol, never smoking a cigarette and never having a driver’s license, for safety purposes. When asked what she feels has attributed to her living this long, Lucy stated, “I guess I’ve just been blessed?”
