Editor's Note

Dear Readers,

Several months ago, as Forever Young’s sister publication, Buffalo Spree, was preparing its 40th anniversary issue, several of us had the fascinating task of seeking images of key people, places and events from Buffalo and Western New York’s last four decades.

We scoured the archives of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, and also paged through old photos from the departed Courier-Express at Buffalo State College’s extensive archives.

But for me, the most thrilling place we visited was the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, and its massive archive collection. It opened my eyes to just how much information on our local past is available, if we know where to look.

That’s why this month, Forever Young is exploring how to find out more about your family history, your home history, and our collective local experience. Genealogy is an endlessly intriguing topic, and two experts — Cynthia Van Ness and Angelo Coniglio — help us decipher where to begin. Enjoy, and look for more from Angelo in future issues of Forever Young.
