Section: Being Well
Loving Bridge
By John Marvin and Betty Bronstein
Bridge hath charms that sooth the savage beast and every beast is different. For some it is the challenge of achieving victory in competition against other skilled, enthusiastic players in a regulated environment. “Let the games begin” and “we who are about to die, salute you!” as they once shouted in the arenas of Rome. For others it is the ability to be absorbed in an activity requiring such concentration that the cares of the day are temporarily set aside. For still others it is a social activity that is inexpensive, without the distractions and side effects of, say, the bar scene, or the numbing soporific affect of television.
Learning the game is a life long process, but there are many opportunities to do so with expert, friendly guidance at the Buffalo Bridge Center. There are lessons for players of all levels of skill and special games in which these lessons are applied under the guidance of mentors as well as a regular schedule of games in which one can sink or swim.
The Buffalo Bridge Center is one of thousands of clubs located around the world. It is unusual, unique in this area, in that it is a not- for-profit organization run entirely to provide bridge learning and playing opportunities under the guidance of the American Contract Bridge League. The ACBL regulates the rules of duplicate bridge and offers many services throughout North America.
New players and those with all levels of experience will find opportunities to learn, practice, or compete against players of similar skill at the Bridge Center. Check the web site for hours, activities and contact information. Leave a message or just drop in during the hours we are open. We think you’ll be glad you did.
